We always need new volunteers! The Whittier Area Literacy Council, Inc. is seeking volunteers for basic literacy or English as a Second Language tutors. There are many kids who fall through the cracks and need help in English. We want to help as many as possible and we need YOU. Community volunteers can help children succeed in school and adults reach their career or life goals. We provide training and materials so no teaching experience is required. Training sessions for prospective tutors are a mix of online courses and in-office training at the council office which is located at Calvary Baptist Church, 6548 Newlin Ave., Whittier, CA 90601. Tutors and students are asked to commit two hours a week for a year and may elect to work with children or adults. Come join us in making a difference in our community. For more information, please contact our Council Office at (562) 698-6598 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutoring is provided throughout the year for those who speak other languages and wish to read, write, and speak the English language. English as a second language tutoring is free of charge, is one-on-one or in small groups, is confidential, and is planned around students' schedules. Students who have participated in ESL Tutoring have gianed or improved their work opportunities, earned citizenship status, have learned to communicate with teachers and others in the community.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve literacy. Your generous donation will fund our mission and is tax deductible.
